*Iconic Chain Cites Rising Crime, Taxes, and Infrastructure Concerns; Announces Closures in Los Angeles and New York City*
**Los Angeles, CA — August 26, 2024** — In-N-Out Burger, the legendary West Coast fast-food chain, today announced plans to relocate its corporate headquarters from Irvine, California, to Sherman, Texas. This decision marks a significant turning point for the company, which has been deeply rooted in California since its founding in 1948.
The move is driven by increasing concerns over rising crime rates, escalating taxes, and crumbling infrastructure in California. In-N-Out Burger’s leadership indicated that these challenges have made it increasingly difficult to operate effectively and maintain the high standards that the brand is known for.
“We have always taken great pride in providing a safe and enjoyable experience for our customers and employees,” said Lindsey Snyder, President of In-N-Out Burger. “Unfortunately, the current situation in California presents significant challenges to our ability to do that. By relocating our headquarters to Sherman, Texas, we are positioning ourselves to better serve our loyal customers and secure the future success of our company.”
In addition to the headquarters relocation, In-N-Out Burger announced the closure of several iconic locations in Los Angeles, including the historic Baldwin Park store, where the company’s first restaurant opened over 75 years ago. In a further development, the company also confirmed the closure of its much-celebrated New York City location, which opened to great fanfare in 2021.
“This was not an easy decision,” Snyder continued. “Our Los Angeles and New York City locations hold a special place in our history and in the hearts of our customers, but the operational challenges in these regions have made it unsustainable to continue. We are committed to supporting our employees through this transition, offering relocation opportunities and assistance wherever possible.”
The company cited the need for a more business-friendly environment as a key factor in the move to Texas, highlighting Sherman’s strategic location, quality of life, and favorable economic conditions.
Despite these closures, In-N-Out Burger remains dedicated to serving its customers across California, New York, and the broader United States. The company plans to continue expanding in states with more favorable business climates while maintaining its commitment to quality and service.
The relocation of In-N-Out Burger’s headquarters is expected to be completed by mid-2025. The company will continue to operate its remaining California and New York locations and is actively exploring new opportunities for growth in other regions.
